Nicholas Dean has always been perceived as a special kid who is few and far in between. Born in Queens, New York, he grew up in a small family as an only child with his parents quite known in their very own industries. His mother loved him dearly and would take him to her sets where she worked as a rising actress; that sparked his curiosity with the beauty of films. Even more when his mother revealed to him that his nickname “Neo” derived from the main character of the film The Matrix (1999) that was released months before his birth. She would always quote, “You’re our number one,” which is also an anagram for Neo.His father on the other hand wanted to expose him with money talks. As an entrepreneur, he worked hours upon hours to give only the best for his son — even hoping that one day he’ll follow in his footsteps and inherit whatever he started.It wasn’t long until his life changed and dreams shattered. On his 8th birthday, Neo got involved in a car accident with his mom as they were on his way to celebrate. He survived the crash, but left his mother in a fatal condition. Rushing to the hospital, his father watched Neo fidget his fingers outside the emergency room and was greeted with the news of his wife’s passing. He watched his father drown in his own tears, and the deep regret began to develop in him.

He regretted asking her to drive him to celebrate. And since then, it left a huge scar in his relationship with his father.

Torn and impoverished, Neo and his father moved back to the Philippines and started a new life. With his hard work and wits, his father turned into a well-known tycoon, and Neo wanted to stay out of it; never mentioning to anyone who his father is that easily.At the age of nine, he learned how to skate, becoming a new hobby and for distractions. Entering college, he decided to major in film despite his father’s dissent, wanting him to take business courses. Their relationship only worsened with his choices, even to the point of cutting his allowances. After the numerous arguments, his father finally gave in when he laid out his greatest reason of all:

“I miss her, dad. I miss mom. And I think about her every single day. I’d like to keep a memory of her through the things that I do.”

Their disagreement came to terms and ended with a shared hug, a warm feeling he had forgotten and a gesture he never had since they moved to a different country. Currently, he lives in a condominium unit in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, supported by his father. He continues to strive and do well in his studies, even actively participating and being a president in an organization in his university.
